Description   What is Blankets of Hope? A long time very special project at Soldiers' Angels, Blankets of Hope is simply that - a blanket created from love by our members to provide hope and comfort to a wounded hero during one of the most difficult and vulnerable times of their lives.  A dedicated team of Angels works daily to create homemade blankets adorned with beautiful artwork, pins and buttons, drawings from children and message of hope, support and cheer. These Blankets of Hope are part of our First Response Backpacks that are sent to Combat Support Hospitals in the Middle East, major medical facilities in Germany and around the world, and to some military hospitals here at home. Why give a Blanket of Hope? When a soldier is wounded, he or she is removed from the battle field and taken to the nearest medical facilities to be cared for. That soldier is most often times evacuated to Germany before making his or her way here to the United States for further treatment. The soldiers' personal belongings as well as clothing and personal items are not immediately forwarded to him or her for quite some time and they are often left with just the uniform they are wearing. The First Reponse Backpack addresses the personal needs of the soldier, but the Blanket of Hope provides something else - it provides warmth and comfort for the wounded soldier, and it provides that soldier with the knowledge that someone cares about him and is thinking and praying for him at that very moment. This is a powerful thing for a wounded hero. To know that someone cares. We are very proud of this project and what it has done for those brave wounded heroes. Now You Can Get Involved Too!!! Even if you do not have the creativity or know how, you too can create a Blanket of Hope to be sent to a brave wounded soldier. We have developed TWO KITS: Do It Yourself Kit - This kit provides you with all of the items you need to create your own personalized Blanket of Hope. Each kit will include instructions, one blanket, a set of markers, a blank white cloth that will serve as your 'canvas',  some items to decorate your Blanket of Hope with, and a note card to be filled out by you and attached to the Blanket of Hope. Once you complete your blanket, we ask that you take a picture of it and send it to us. Then simply send it in the mail to the address provided. Before long, your very own Blanket of Hope will be comforting a brave wounded soldier who needs it most. The cost for the Do It Yourse Kit is $25. All proceeds go directly to the Blankets of Hope project, providing for materials and postage to get these to our heroes. Ready To Send Kit - This kit comes with all of the items listed in the Do It Yourself Kit, but the blanket has been sewn together. All that is left to do is decorate it as you see fit, complete the note to the soldier and send it to the address provided. The cost for the Ready To Send Kit is $30. All proceeds go directly to the Blankets of Hope project, providing for materials and postage to get these to our heroes. Both of these options provide a WONDERFUL way for you to send a little love, comfort and support to a young hero who is injured and scared. We have heard from nurses, medical personnel and soldiers' alike that these blankets become some what of a safety system for that soldier and no matter where he is transfered, his blanket goes with him. This means so much to these brave young heroes - we cannot even begin to imagine. in lieu of flowers October 24, 2006 Reviewer: Sandra Latiolais from Arnaudville, LA United States   My dearest brother Curtis Latiolais died on 10/20/06 after a battle with cancer.  He had been sending backpacks to our soldiers for some time.  It was his wish donations be made to your organization in lieu of flowers.  It is my final show of respect, love, and admiraton of his quiet homage to our soldiers to continue his expression of care, concern, and appreciation to the men and women who give so much.  It follows his life of selfless giving to all those in need, and his sense of duty to his brothers and sisters in the field.
